When Broken Glass Floats by Chanrithy Him
Charinthy Him tells of her childhood, growing up in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge where rudimentary labour camps are the norm and technology, such as cars and electricity, no longer exist. As she struggles to understand the suffering around her, she shows courage and hope.
Chanrithy Him, born in 1965, lives in Eugene, Oregon, where she works for the Khmer Adolescent Project, studying post-traumatic stress disorder among Cambodians.
