Where Monsters Lie by Polly Ho-Yen
The children of Mivtown have grown up hearing the legend of the monsters of the loch. Effies rabbit Buster escapes from a locked hutch, her mum disappears without trace and slugs start to infest her home. Along with her best friend Finn, Effie begins to hunt for clues to solve the mysteries of Mivtown.
"This matches a dystopian plot with a hugely engaging narrator.. An unusual and very impressive debut." -- Fiona Noble The Bookseller "Haunting and compelling, with characters you really care for" -- Vanessa Lewis The Bookseller "I loved it and I think you - whoever you are, whether you're aged eight or eighty - will love it, too. Boy In The Tower comes highly recommended by me. I think it might even be my favourite story of 2014 so far."
Polly used to be a primary school teacher in London and while she was teaching there she used to get up very early in the morning to write stories. The first of those stories is now a book called Boy in the Tower.
She’s still writing stories and though she doesn’t teach now, she still visit schools … only now they’re all over the country.
She lives in Bristol with her husband Dan who designs the covers of her books.
