In the small coal mining town of Hartsville, Virginia, the God-fearing Hayfields raise their two sons, Jack and Billy, with a stern hand. Jack is a star athlete who is destined to be the first Hayfield to attend college. Billy, who is academically strong, is the best trombonist in four counties. But as they move through high school with dreams of success, the Hayfield boys have no idea their destiny is about to lead them in an entirely new direction. As fate changes their future and leaves the boys to choose between a moral or sinful path. Jack secretly develops a creative plan he hopes will secure the family's future. Now only time will tell if greed will be his downfall.

Sally Symes has designed, written, and illustrated many books with numerous talented partners. She has collaborated with illustrator Nick Sharratt on three other Finger Wiggle Books--Little Baby's Busy Day, Little Baby's Playtime, and Little Wild Animals--as well as Yawn and Whose Toes Are Those? She is also the author of Funny Face, Sunny Face, illustrated by Rosalind Beardshaw. Sally Symes lives in England.

Nick Sharratt is the author-illustrator of numerous books for children, including What's in the Witch's Kitchen? He is also the illustrator of three other Finger Wiggle Books--Little Baby's Busy Day, Little Baby's Playtime, and Little Wild Animals--as well as Yawn and Whose Toes Are Those?, all by Sally Symes. He lives in England.
