The Wicket Men by Tony Hannan

Tony Hannan spent what turned out to be the penultimate Minor Counties campaign in the company of Cumberland CCC, and as goes with such terrain, it's a story of ups, downs and one or two surprises. The Wicket Men draws stumps on one small but fascinating aspect of a pastime whose arcane rhythms and rituals are rooted in English folk tradition.
Tony Hannan is a Yorkshire-born author whose other books include Underdogs: A Year in the Life of a Rugby League Town; Being Eddie Waring - the biography of the famous sports commentator; Tries and Prejudice - the story of England's first Muslim rugby international, Ikram Butt - and On Behalf of the Committee: A History of Northern Comedy. An ex-Press Association journalist, he is also a co-director of Scratching Shed, publisher of books on all aspects of northern English culture, and co-edits the monthly rugby league magazine Forty20.
