Wide Woman on a Narrow Boat by Stephanie Green
If you're thinking of making the life-changing decision of moving from a house to live on a narrow boat it is wise to do your research. Spend time holidaying on a boat, look at as many boats as possible, read the magazines and the books that give an idea of pitfalls and costs and speak to people about the life-style. Either that or just go out and buy a boat.Which is what the author did and then to make life a bit more 'interesting' decided to make the maiden voyage alongside another novice boater: her ex-husband. That decision increased the steepness of the learning curve and quickly dissipated the illusion of life aboard a narrow boat being serene and tranquil.
But she survived that first journey along the River Nene and the Great Ouse, survived a harsh winter and went on to love and sometimes hate life aboard. This is the story of travelling the water-ways, of towns and countryside, of the wild-life both human and natural. The story of getting it right and getting it wrong and of plans not going to plan.
Stephanie Green is a bright young lady with huge ambitions. She made the decision to go to Africa at a early age to help the disadvantaged children. When she was nine years old, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and her dream was destroyed. She was left with seizures and other physical limitations after three surgeries and a lot of grief. She changed from being an honor student to being in special education as a result of the intrusive procedures.
Stephanie, on the other hand, continued to fantasize about how she could aid youngsters who were less fortunate than herself. Stephanie developed her affinity for composing poetry as a means to cope with her setbacks. She started writing children's poetry to express herself. Paint For Me a Picture is her debut collection of children's poetry.
The book was created with a poetry on one page and a blank page on the other page for the youngster to use their creativity to draw a image to go along with the poem. For years to come, the book will serve as a collaborative and customized keepsake. Stephanie intends to pursue her dream of writing another novel in the near future. While her initial goal of assisting children in Africa has shifted, she remains committed to assisting underprivileged children in the United States.
Her dream is to establish a tree house resort hotel using the proceeds from this book. She wants to invite less fortunate children to come along on an expedition and have some fun with her. This manner, she can put her Allen Hancock College Early Childhood Development degree to good use for her young customers. Stephanie is receiving assistance from the Tri-counties Regional Center in San Luis Obispo, California, and intends to find work through Pathpoint services in the near future.
