Dennis Schmidt was born in Korbach in 1980. He completed his specialized journalism studies at the Justus-Liebig-Universität in 2007 and received the degree of Magister Artium. Since the beginning of his studies, he has been fascinated by the power of the media, their impact on readers, manipulation possibilities, and counter-strategies employed by journalists and publishers - whether on a scholarly level in the tensions between advertising, public relations, and free press, or as a local journalist covering the Nationalsozialist takeover of power in the 1930s. The Cuban Revolution was a good candidate for a thorough investigation for a number of reasons. For starters, it demonstrates how different facts were portrayed in West- and East-Germany. Another reason is that working with history always allows for a projection into the present. Dennis Schmidt is currently employed as a freelance journalist in Nordhessen.
