David Crouch is a medieval history lecturer at the University of Hull. He is an authority on English and Norman history from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The Beaumont Twins (Cambridge, 1986); The Image of Aristocracy in Britain, 1000-1300 (Routledge); and William Marshal (2nd edn, Longman) are among his writings on aristocracy. He's also the author of Longman's The Reign of King Stephen, 1135-1154 and Hambledon's The Normans: the History of a Dynasty.
