The Wounded Storyteller by Arthur W Frank
This work argues that people tell stories in order to make sense of their suffering; ill people are wounded storytellers. Frank recounts a collection of illness stories ranging from the well-known to the private testimonials of people with cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome and disabilities.Arthur W. Frank is a professor of sociology at the University of Calgary and the author of several books, including At the Will of the Body: Reflections on Disease, The Wounded Storyteller: Body, Sickness, and Ethics, and The Renewal of Generosity: Illness, Medicine, and How to Live, all of which are published by the University of Chicago Press.
