David Henry Hwang's Yellow Face is a mock documentary that puts Hwang himself centre-stage as he uses the controversy over colour-blind casting for Miss Saigon and the racially motivated federal investigation of his own father to explore Asian identity and the ever-changing definition of what it is to be an American.

David Henry Hwang holds honorary degrees from Columbia College in Chicago and The American Conservatory Theatre. He graduated from Stanford University and attended the Yale School of Drama. He and his wife, actress Kathryn Layng, and their children, Noah David and Eva Veanne, live in New York City.
