House & Garden Sixties House Summary

House & Garden Sixties House: Interiors, design & style from the 1960s by Catriona Gray

From Pop art to Op art, plastic furniture to bubble-gum paint colours, the Sixties saw a new wave of interior design that was closely linked to popular culture and fashion, becoming increasingly youth-oriented and playful to appeal to the new generation of baby-boomers.

In Sixties House, mid-century modern enthusiast Catriona Gray has drawn on the magazine's peerless archive, curating the best illustrations and photographs to show how the use of colour, pattern, homewares and furniture evolved through the decade. The homes of key tastemakers are featured including Bridget Riley, Mary Quant, David Mlinaric, Barbara Hulanicki of Biba and David Bailey.

The second title in the new Decades of Design series, House & Garden Sixties House is required reading for mid-century modern enthusiasts, collectors and decorators in search of inspiration from the most influential homes of the past.

About Catriona Gray

While working for House & Garden, Catriona Gray stumbled across the magazine's extensive archives. The leather-bound volumes gave no indication of the riot of design inspiration hidden inside. When not leafing though old volumes of magazines, Catriona can be found at Town & Country and Harper's Bazaar, and is reviews editor for the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain.

House & Garden is part of the Conde Nast group of magazines and was founded in the UK in 1947. It is one of the world's leading interior design magazines. For over 65 years it has set the gold standard in design and decoration for the home and has an archive of hundreds of thousands of images. Where House & Garden leads, other home interest titles follow. Since its inception, its pages have acted as an authoritative 'Who's Who' of interior design.
The magazine has a readership of 687,000.
