The Guinness Who's Who of Seventies Music Summary

The Guinness Who's Who of Seventies Music by Colin Larkin

As well as documenting the famous, this guide to the pop-music performers of the 1970s also covers the less meteoric, but no less influential, careers of many groups and individuals. With the demise of The Beatles in 1970, the Sixties made way for an uncertain era of pop music which threw up many unlikely stars. Among them were artists whose output defined the music of the Seventies, but whose international success carried on well past that decade, such as David Bowie, Kiss, Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd and Elton John. There was the influence of Marc Bolan, who paved the way for Gary Glitter, Slade and Sweet; and the shock-rock revue of Alice Cooper, which contrasted with the showmanship and technical expertise of bands such as Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Yes, and Genesis. Meanwhile David Cassidy, the Osmonds, the Jackson 5, the Bay City Rollers and other teen-stars took up where The Beatles had left off.
