Dallas Then and Now (R) Summary

Dallas Then and Now (R) (Then and Now) by Ken Fitzgerald

Dallas Then and Now is one of the latest revised 'Then and Now' titles in the 3-million selling series from Anova Books.

John Neely Bryan built the first cabin on the side of the Trinity River in 1841 and by 1845, when Texas was admitted to the Union, Dallas County and the town of Dallas were established, taking their name from President James K. Polk's vice-president George Mifflin Dallas.

Dallas Then and Now uses vintage photographs chosen from nearly a million cataloged in the Dallas Public Library from the early days of photography up until the 1960s. The landmarks, architecture, street scenes, stores, businesses, schools and fairgrounds of yesteryear are revisted to see what has been preserved or what stands in their place today.

About Ken Fitzgerald

Ken Fitzgerald is an adopted Texan who subscribes to the motto: I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could. A Dallas resident, he works in neighboring Fort Worth and has written and photographed features for railway periodicals over a period of thirty years. He first wrote and photographed the original Dallas Then and Now in 2000 and has now wholly revised and rephotographed the book a decade later.
