Walking in Ticino - Switzerland Summary

Walking in Ticino - Switzerland by Kev Reynolds

A guidebook to walking in the Swiss Ticino Alps, near the lake resorts of Locarno and Lugano. The 75 routes are found in the di Blenio, Lavizzara, Verzasca, Bedretto, Leventina, Maggia and Bavona valleys. The guidebook describes all the valleys and villages, takes you to the finest viewpoints and suggests 75 of the best walks to be enjoyed in the Alps of Ticino, as well as providing practical advice for getting to and around the region, background information on the area's history, wildlife, flowers, geology and points of interest and advice on making the most out a walking trip to the Swiss Alps north of the Italian lakes. The Ticino Alps provide some of the finest uncrowded paths of all the alpine regions. Away from the main valleys secretive inner glens reveal 'lost' alp hamlets, crystal rivers and tarns, and long feathery cascades. Granite peaks form a dramatic backdrop to every outing. High passes lure the adventurous, belvedere trails surprise with their vast panoramas, and in the valleys there's an air of soft enchantment among the chestnut woods. Remote mountain huts offer accommodation for walkers in the high country, while valley-based lodging is provided in attractive Italian-style villages bright with flower-decked balconies.

Walking in Ticino - Switzerland Reviews

'Ticino is the eastern region of Switzerland near the Italian border, little known by the British yet readily accessible from Locarno. Kev Reynolds writes with such affection and infectious enthusiasm for this most tranquil of Alpine regions, with its granite peaks, wooded valleys and lost villages, that readers will be unable to resist planning a visit at the next opportunity.'(High)
