The Making of an Engineer: An Illustrated History of Engineering Education in the United States and Canada by Lawrence P. Grayson
The cover illustration is the Palace of Fine Arts at the Worlds Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago in 1893. As part of the International Congress on Engineering, 70 men convened in Room 33 of the building for a week-long series of meetings on engineering education. On Friday, August 4, 1893, they voted to establish the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Education.
