This is a very useful collection of studies, working through many technical and rhythmical problems. All the studies are well laid out and carefully printed and each one indicates the technical pointed covered, useful for jogging the memory of the child. All have original, snappy titles which help to indicate the style of the piece, and the temp is given with a metronome mark and an Italian or English term........A very pleasant, appealing, fun set of studies which children would enjoy.

Superstudies book 2 (containing 12 pieces) also features user-friendly titles which underline the purpose of the piece, such as 'Make it snappy' (which introduces the Scottish snap using a demi-semiquaver and a double dotted quavers, in the form of a reel). Other titles provide useful rhythmic and melodic aids, as in 'Overnight mail express' where the first part of the study is based on the familiar triplet and quaver figure suggested by a train. Techniques in this book include quick changes from bow to pizz., easy doublestoppings, hooked bowings, spiccato, chromatic movement of the fingers and augmented seconds.... be grateful to Cohen for her insight, imagination, and the application of her ideas in teaching different violin skills.
