Stereographic Projection Technique Summary

Stereographic Projection Technique by P R LEYSHON (Geology Section, University of Glamorgan)

This book sets out to provide a simple introduction to the subject by means of illustrations and exercises, encouraging the student to visualise the problems concerned in three dimensions. Once an appreciation is gained of the nature of the problem, the formal solution using the projection becomes both logical and straightforward. The stereographic projection is an essential tool of the structural geologist which allows three-dimensional orientation data to be both represented and manipulated. It provides a way of graphically displaying the data collected. This is essential for the recognition and interpretation of patterns of preferred orientation. 'This is the book all teachers of stereographic projections have been waiting for! It is 115 pages of well-presented, clearly explained, generally well-illustrated text - in short it is user-friendly.' - Episodes - Int. Geoscience Newsmagazine, April 1996

Stereographic Projection Technique Reviews

An essential text for an essential structural tool. The concise and logical step-by-step approach, together with the emphasis on visualization of the method, are exemplary. Students will greatly appreciate the included software.Returned'...carries a price tag that will be attractive to students.I have been happy to recommend it to undergraduates as a virtually essential purchase, and in the two years of experience of using it since it first appeared it is clear that students concur with this view...The book is a very welcome addition to the armoury of the teacher of structural geology. The authors have clearly put a great deal of though into the production of a book that is compact, inexpensive and well structured to meet the needs of students in an area that many find difficult.JOURNAL OF STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY
