Sue Hendra
Children's Author of the MonthSue Hendra has been making up stories and drawing silly pictures basically her whole life — and thank goodness for that, because kids everywhere are much happier for it. Growing up in Wimbledon with Mr. Silly as her favourite book (a choice that tells you everything you need to know), she went on to study at Brighton University and has been creating picture books ever since. She's the brilliant co-creator of the blockbuster Supertato series, as well as a whole host of other wonderfully daft titles including Barry the Fish with Fingers and Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell. When she's not dreaming up her next brilliantly bonkers character, Sue can be found swimming — and apparently she can go up and down for a very long time. Her favourite book is still Mr. Silly, which feels exactly right.
Author interview
I think it was Mr silly by Roger Hargreaves. Little Sue thought it was VERY funny and big Sue still does!
Paper butterflies by Lisa Heathfield.
The swimming pool. I can swim up and down for a very long time. I think it's where I have my best thoughts and ideas.
Tea drinking. I’ve really branched out in the last few years, ginger, peppermint, green, but sometimes nothing beats good old builders tea.
Keep doing what you’re doing - having as much fun as you can drawing and writing. If you get lost in your creations it won’t feel like work, but work hard anyway! And don’t give up.
