101 Essential Rock Records by Jeff Gold

This rockin' volume is a tribute to the vinyl album and celebrates 101 of rock's most influential records - from The Beatles' 1963 debut Please Please Me - through the Sex Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks (1977). Big names stand alongside lesser-known but highly influential artists in celebration. An essay on each album accompanies reproductions of the original cover artwork in addition to thought-provoking interviews from musicians who discuss the albums and artists who changed their lives. Contributions from Peter Buck, Johnny Marr and more feature.

David Bowie, who was born in London in 1947, was one of the most influential musicians, performers, and composers of the last fifty years, enthralling generations of fans and inspiring numerous artists in every creative area. His changing personae (from Ziggy Stardust to Aladdin Sane and the Thin White Duke and on) and persistent progression (covering styles from rock 'n' roll to soul, funk, techno, disco, and jazz) left an enduring mark on pop music and culture. Changes, Fame, Heroes, Let's Dance, and Space Oddity are just a few of his iconic singles. Bowie was a talented actor who acted in the 1976 film The Man Who Fell to Earth. He died on January 10, 2016, two days after his 35th album, Black Star, was released.
