The Adventures of Traveller Tim by Roy Young
The engaging tale of a young lad coming of age in the country in the days when you might still see the last few traditional horse drawn travelling caravans on the road. Tim's father, Sean, wasn't there when Tim was growing up and there is a lot of ground to make up. Can Sean win back the trust of the son whose childhood he missed?
Roy Young was born in 1951 in Hamble, Hampshire, a village which grew at the point where the River Hamble joins Southampton Water as it opens out into The Solent and famous for its sailing and aero-structures history. Roy was brought up in the countryside there and later he lived for a number of years in the nearby village of Old Bursledon . At the age of twelve he started to work part time on the land and also as a gardener. He met and befriended a number of travellers. Throughout his teens he worked on the land and on building sites, and was taught some of the old country crafts and customs by his grandparents and the local gamekeeper. Later he joined the navy and travelled for a few years seeing other cultures before settling down and getting married. After gaining more experience in the building industry Roy went into teaching, becoming a further education lecturer at local colleges. Now, after a spell running his own business, he is a manager with a large local construction company. Roy spends all his spare time working on his next book and has many more stories to tell
