She was a Library of Congress American Memory Fellow in 1997 and has earned three National Endowment for the Humanities scholarships to study children's literature. Monica has long been a regular contributor to the Child_lit Internet discussion group, as well as other online communities. She speaks at national conferences on a regular basis and is the author of two more books and several articles.
