
In 1969, Tom Singfield began working at Heathrow Airport as an Air Traffic Control Assistant. He stayed until 1978, when he went to school to become an air traffic controller. He was a fan of aircraft'spotting' at Gatwick and worked as an ATCO there until 1992, when the Approach Radar service relocated to West Drayton. In 2005, he retired after 37 years of service. He lives in West Sussex and is an aviation writer and photographer with a collection of over 50,000 slides. He has written Historic Gatwick Propliners for The History Press.
