Airpower by Stephen Budiansky

No single human invention has changed war more than the aeroplane. The potential of air power to revolutionize the very nature - perhaps even the meaning - of combat was strikingly evident almost from the moment the Wright brothers first flew. Stephen Budiansky tells the story of air power showing how, in the course of the 20th century, it transformed warfare.
'An exceptional history - a fine mix of detailed information with real human interestThis is an extremely important addition to the history of aviation' John Nichol 'Excellent ... the story of the journey from the skies over the Western Front to Baghdad is a long, fascinating and important one. There is no more intelligent and entertaining guide to it than Budiansky's admirable book' Patrick Bishop, Daily Telegraph
Stephen Budiansky is a correspondent for the Atlantic Monthly and the author of BATTLE OF WITS: THE COMPLETE STORY OF CODEBREAKING IN WORLD WAR II. In the 1980s he worked on a classified study of 'smart' weapons technology as a US congressional fellow. He lives in Virginia.
