Airships Over Ulster by Guy Warner
This new edition of Airships over Ulster is a tantalising piece of hidden history brought to life by aviation historian Guy Warner. He expertly weaves together the fascinating tale of pioneering aviation, anti-submarine warfare in World War One, and the human connection to the first military aviation facility in Ulster. Airships from the mooring-out station at Bentra, Whitehead in County Antrim flew dozens of missions in support of the naval forces based in Larne. This book is well illustrated with little seen images of the airships in action, design details and the personnel involved - several photographed by the local people who became accustomed to the sight of these 'great, grey, silent shapes'.
Guy Warner has been a regular contributor to Ulster Airmail, the journal of the Ulster Aviation Society, Aircraft Illustrated, Air Enthusiast, Air Pictorial, Aviation Ireland and Northern Ireland Travel News. He is also co-author of Colourpoint's In the Heart of the City: The History of Belfast's City Airport, 1938-1998, Flying from Malone: Belfast's First Civil Aerodrome, Belfast International Airport: Aviation at Aldergrove since 1938, No 230 Squadron Royal Air Force and many other titles. Guy is married with two daughters and lives in Co Antrim.
