All Politics is Local by Liam Weeks

Election to local government in Ireland does not require big-budget campaigns, detailed policy manifestos or sophisticated marketing techniques. While 'all politics is local' at every level of Irish political life, at local government elections this maxim is especially to the fore. Voters choose candidates for city, county, borough and town councils, with the proportion turning out to vote often greater than that at US presidential elections. This book is the first to provide a detailed account of local elections in Ireland, with a particular focus on how they are conducted and what candidates do in their quest for a seat. It is essential reading for all aspiring politicians and for anyone interested in the workings of Irish politics.
'A good read on the story of Irish local government' Leinster Leader
