All the Nice Girls by Barbara Anderson

ALL THE NICE GIRLS is set in 1962 on the New Zealand navel base of Devenport. Sophie Flynn's life is becoming alarmingly complicated. While her husband is at sea, her friendship with the Commodore develops. At the same time she takes home an elderly infirm neighbour. Then her husband returns and Sophie has to juggle loves and loyalties against society's expectations. Barbara Anderson's comic timing has never been surer, while her insights into human behaviour are both moving and true.
Barbara Anderson is the author of five novels, Girls High, Portrait of the Artist's Wife (winner of the 1992 Wattie Award), All the Nice Girls, The House Guest and Proud Garments, and a collection of stories, I think we should go into the jungle. She lives in New Zealand.
