Along the Tracks by Tamar Bergman

Still wearing badges that mark them as Jews, Yankele and his family flee Nazi-occupied Poland and begin their lives as refugees. But when the train they're on is bombed, Yankele and his family are separated. Here Yankele's life as a refugee ends, and his life as one of the 'abandoned ones' begins.

Tamar Bergman is the proud mother of three (adult) children, as well as the author of a number of novels and hundreds of radio scripts. Among the many awards she has received, The Boy from Over There was awarded the Berenstein Award in 1984 and was selected the best Israeli children's book by the University of Haifa's Institute of Literature for Children and Youth. Along the Tracks was also praised by critics and got the Ze'ev Award from the Ministry of Education in 1988. Tamar Bergman, her husband, and a pair of bicycles live in Jerusalem.
