Alun, Gweno and Freda by John Pikoulis
Alun Lewis (1915-1944) was the outstanding writer of World War Two: poet, story writer, astonishing letter writer. This centenary biography tells his life and that of the two women who most influenced him: his wife Gweno, and Freda Aykroyd, the muse he met in India. His short life was set against the drama of world war in England, India and Burma.
John Pikoulis was a Senior Tutor at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, Cardiff University. His books include a critical study of William Faulkner and a biography of Alun Lewis (Seren, 1984). His areas of expertise include Welsh language in English, Arts provision in Wales, nineteenth and twentieth century English and American literature. He was for many years the Joint Chair of Academi, the Welsh writers' organisation.
