The American Puritans by Perry Miller
Perry Miller's classic one-volume anthology of Puritan writings recreates the world of seventeenth-century New England through a judicious selection of tracts, journals, sermons, and poetry by the major Puritan writers: William Bradford, Cotton Mather, John Winthrop, Thomas Hooker, Anne Bradstreet, Michael Wigglesworth, and Edward Taylor among them.Perry Miller is a doctor with a computer science doctorate. He was a professor of anesthesiology at Yale School of Medicine for many years, as well as the director of Yale's Center for Medical Informatics, which investigated the innovative use of computers in medicine. He has always enjoyed writing, but has only recently published articles and books on computer and medical research. He's very delighted to be writing fiction, and he intends to bring a strong sense of authenticity to the intersection of these two areas. He and his wife live near their children and grandchildren in the Boston region.
