Dee Brown was the author of nearly twenty-five volumes on the American West and the Civil War while working as a librarian in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for many years. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, a classic in its field, was a New York Times bestseller for nearly a year and has been translated into a number of languages. Dee Brown passed away in the year 2002. Outside magazine's editor-at-large, Hampton Sides, is the author of Ghost Soldiers and Blood and Thunder. He was awarded the PEN USA Prize for Nonfiction in 2002.
