Humor permeates every aspect of society and has done so for thousands of yearsFrom 1965 through 2003, Arthur Asa Berger was a professor emeritus of Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts at San Francisco State University. He has lectured in over a dozen countries and has been a visiting professor in Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, and China. Berger has written or edited over 75 books on media, popular culture, social theory, humor, and tourism, and has over a hundred articles to his credit. His books have been published in nine different languages. Seeing is Believing: An Introduction to Visual Communication, Media and Society, Media and Communication Research Techniques, and What Things Mean: An Introduction to Material Culture are some of his most recent textbooks. In 2009, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
