Peter Armstrong was born in 1957 in Blaydon on Tyne, County Durham, and has lived all his life in the North East of England. He read Philosophy and English at Sunderland Polytechnic, and is a psychiatric nurse. His poems have appeared in 10 North East Poets (Bloodaxe) and in anthologies and magazines. He received an Eric Gregory Award in 1984, and has twice had creative writing grants from Northern Arts. Risings is his first collection.
