Ancient Trees is a love-letter to Britain's venerable trees. The co-authors are well known for their extensive work with ancient trees and historic woodland. The book is a celebration of the ancient and historic trees that enhance 40 National Trust properties, including the yew under which it is believed the Magna Carta was sealed 800 years ago, Isaac Newton's apple tree, and a row of massive chestnut trees that are said to originate from nuts salvaged from the Spanish Armada. Featuring stunning photography by Edward Parker, this enchanting book explores the historical and cultural associations of ancient trees and their biological importance, as well as their sheer beauty.

Edward Parker has been photographing and writing about trees and environmental issues for over 25 years. He has written more than 30 books, including Ancient Trees: Trees that Live for a Thousand Years (2012) and Photographing Trees (2012), and has twice been highly commended in Wildlife Photographer of the Year. He is currently Manager for the Springhead Trust in Dorset. Brian Muelaner worked for the National Trust for nearly three decades managing its woodlands and parklands containing ancient trees, initially as Regional Forester in Cornwall and latterly as the Trust's national Ancient Tree Adviser covering all Trust properties. Throughout his professional career he has been passionate about ancient trees.
