Andy Kaufman Revealed! by Bob Zmuda
With a movie about Kaufman already out, this is his manager and friend Zmuda's recollection of the late comedian. Best remembered as English-challenged immigrant Latka Gravas on the '70s sitcom Taxi, Kaufman also appeared regularly on Saturday Night Live, did stand-up, and wrestled women. Photos.
Bob Zmuda, a writer, performer, producer, and actor, has been working deep inside the trenches of the American comedy scene for over three decades. The founder and driving force behind the HBO telethons Comic Relief USA, which raised over $80 million for the homeless and other charities, Bob was Andy Kaufman s writing partner from 1974 until his death in 1986. He organized the first Comic Relief telethon as a memorial to Andy and became executive producer of two-time Academy Awardwinning director Milos Forman s feature film Man on the Moon, with Jim Carrey playing Andy and Paul Giamatti playing Bob.
A two-time Emmy Award winner and Grammy nominee, Bob has hosted several series for Comedy Central and A&E and produced a number of major prime time network specials. He wrote briefly for Rodney Dangerfield and was the late Sam Kinison s producer.
Bob is currently working on mounting the largest star-studded fundraiser ever for endangered wildlife worldwide as well as helping to craft a tribute to Robin Williams. He lives in Lake Tahoe.
