The book was a central element of Anglo-Saxon art and society and a rich vehicle for cultural expression. In this study of the art of bookmaking throughout the Anglo-Saxon period, the author discusses the works and their readers, the scribes' materials and techniques, script and illumination.

Michelle Brown lives in Portage, MI with her husband and two children. After earning her B.A. in English at Western Michigan University, she became a secondary English teacher, and she currently teaches high school English in a nearby school district. She went on to earn an M.A. at Western Michigan University and has tentative plans to pursue a doctorate in the future. When she's not writing, you can find her sipping on a cup of coffee, chasing around her two young children, developing projects for her students, or immersing herself in a new YA/middle grade novel. Her love of science fiction and deep interest in space led her to write her debut novel, Tales of an Alien Invader. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
