Anglo-Saxon Village by Monica Stoppleman

This is one of a series of books in which children visit locations, in this case a reconstructed Anglo-Saxon village, and, using evidence they find, recreate the everyday life of the people who lived in these places during their heyday. The books include a time-line describing the important events of the period and showing how the location itself changed over time to the present day. In specially commissioned photographs children are shown exploring the locations, handling artefacts and experimenting with reconstruction using such things as clothes and cooking utensils. In this book they discover evidence that shows them how the Anglo-Saxons built and heated their homes, what they ate and how they cooked it, what they wore and how they relaxed.
