Eichenberg, Fritz: - FRITZ EICHENBERG (1901-19XX) was an artist of wide-ranging talents, from colorful illustrations for children's books such as Ape in a Cape for which he won the Caldecott Medal to wood engravings for books by Poe, Shakespeare, and Tolstoy. Born and trained in Germany, he moved to New York City in 1933 where he continued to work as a fine artist, graphic designer, and teacher whose work is represented in museums and galleries nationwide and around the world.
