Apostolic Fathers, The by Apostolic Fathers
The era of the apostolic fathers was filled with danger and plenty of false teaching. New fathers needed to rise up in order to fill the gap left by the apostles after their persecutions by the Roman Empire. This collection of writing is the basis from which many of our current beliefs come from. These men fought false teaching and notably Gnosticism in order to clear up the Bible and the apostolic teaching handed down to them and us.
The Apostolic Fathers featured in this collection are Clement, a foreign secretary in the church of Rome; Ignatius, a bishop of Syria; Polycarp, a bishop in Smyrna who was eventually martyred; and several anonymous authors. Their writings collected here span approximately AD 70-155 and reveal ways the early Christians understood and applied the teachings of the original apostles.
