LAURIE BROWN is a photographer based in Newport Coast, California, whose work can be found in the permanent collections of the Center for Creative Photography, the Los Angeles County Musée of Art, the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, among others. She has had solo and group shows at the California Museum of Photography, Irvine Fine Arts Center, Laguna Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, Nevada Museum of Art, Palm Springs Art Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Sezon Museum in Tokyo, among others. Recent Terrains: Terraforming the American West, her first book of photography, was released in 2000 by the Johns Hopkins University Press in collaboration with the Center for American Places.
