Mark Dion is an American artist whose work has been shown in museums across the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate in London, and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, as well as on PBS's Art 21. Dion has worked as an artist-in-residence at the Natural History Museum in London. His research looks at how prevailing ideologies and public institutions influence how we think about history, knowledge, and the natural world. Dion makes works that explore the distinctions between 'objective' ('rational') scientific procedures and'subjective' ('irrational') influences by appropriating diverse scientific ways of collecting, organizing, and showing items.
