An Armchair Traveller's History of Finland by Jonathan Clements
In the American mind, Finland is often swept up in the general group of Nordic countries, little known and seldom gaining prominence on its own. But as Jonathan Clements shows in An Armchair Traveller's History of Finland, it has a long and fascinating history, one that offers oddities and excitements galore: from prehistoric herders to medieval lords, Christian martyrs and Viking kings, and the war heroes who held off the Soviet Union against long odds. Clements travels the length of the country as he tells these stories, along the way offering accounts of Finland's public artworks, literary giants, legends and folktales, and famous figures. The result is the perfect introduction to Finland for armchair and actual travelers alike.Jonathan Clements is a renowned financial journalist who has won numerous awards. He was born in London, England, and attended Cambridge University before working for Forbes magazine in New York for three years before joining The Wall Street Journal in January 1990. He spearheaded the Journal's mutual funds coverage, wrote the Heard on the Street column, and authored personal-finance articles during his eight years with the paper, before being handed his own column, Getting Moving, in October 1994. Clements is the author of Financing Your Future: The Only Guide to Mutual Funds You'll Ever Need, which was released in 1993 and won four journalistic prizes. He lives in Metuchen, New Jersey, and works at the Journal's headquarters in New York City.
