Armies of the Crusades by Terence Wise

In the early crusades men of all ranks from all over Europe took the cross and went to fight Islam as volunteers. Some went out of religious fervour, others to escape the plagues and famine which were rife at the time, still others in search of land or a fortune in loot. Fighting alongside all of these were the armies raised in Outremer, the Holy Land itself. Together they waged a bloody religious war, the participants of which included such forces as the Knights Templar, the Teutonic Knights, and the Byzantine Army.

Terence Wise is one of Osprey’s most popular authors. Terence has been a respected historical writer for more than 25 years. With numerous books and articles to his credit, he has contributed more than a dozen titles to the Men-at-Arms series, mainly on medieval subjects including studies of the military orders and the Wars of the Roses.

Gerry Embleton has been a leading historical illustrator since the early 1970s specialising in the 18th and 19th centuries. An illustrator, and author, of a number of Osprey titles he has lived in Switzerland since the early 1980s.
