Philip Sherwood is a retired chemist turned local historian who as a Principal Scientific Officer in the Scientific Civil Service has worked for the Transport 9formerly Road) Research Laboratory) and the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, an active member of several amenity and environmental groups, the Publications Editor of the Hayes and Harlington Local History Society and former Chairman of the local branch of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England. In addition to several technical publications he has compiled several previous publications in the Britain in Old Photographs series. In a related series, he is also author of Heathrow, 2000 Years of History (1999).
