Art Cinema by Paul Young
Debate over film's credibility as an art form is as old as the medium itself. This book explores how artists have used the medium to explode cinematic conventions and convey a truly expressive cinema - one that uses rhythm, color, structure, and content to express a staggering array of ideas and feelings.
"Movies should have a beginning, a middle and end, but not necessarily in that order- Jean-Luc Godard"
Paul Duncan has edited 50 film books for TASCHEN, including the award-winning The Ingmar Bergman Archives, and authored Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick in the Film Series. Paul Young received his undergraduate degree from USC's school of cinema and television, and a master's degree from the American Film Institute. He has written on contemporary art, architecture, and film for ArtReview, Art News, Variety, Dwell, and Surface, and is the author of L.A. Exposed.
