He spent a lot of his childhood painting and developing characters based on comic books. He attributes his success to his parents' encouragement and development of his abilities. Jack went on to get his B.S.A. after that. His M.F.A. in illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design
Cranbrook Academy of Art offers a design program. Jack taught at North Carolina State University's School of Design and Ohio University to share his understanding of these fields with others. He also spent six years as an advertisement art director. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1994 to pursue freelance illustration.
