Art of 'Planet 51' by Danny Graydon

The inhabitants of Planet 51 live in fear of alien invasion, but for sixteen-year-old Lem life is happy, safe and unsurprising. Lem is a model kid, a good student, a bit of a science nerd, and dreams of dating the girl next door, Nera and then the unpredictable happens! Out of the blue and millions of miles from Earth, astronaut Captain Charles 'Chuck' Baker lands in Nera's backyard, right in the middle of a family barbecue! The dimwitted Captain Baker steps forward, plants his flag, looks up, suddenly realizing he's not alone. Panicked, Baker runs and finds refuge in the local planetarium, where Lem works. The terrified and confused inhabitants of Planet 51 call in General Grawl and the army to lead the paranoid pursuit of the alien invader (Capt. Baker). All of a sudden, Lem is Capt. Baker's only hope and must overcome his fear of breaking the rules to help the lost astronaut. With little time to spare Lem and his friends must help Baker back to his ship before it returns to Earth and Grawl closes in. The book contains: original concept art and artist renderings; an inside look at Ilion's production and CGI; insights from the directors; and, features on the character development.
