He is a public speaker who speaks to audiences of all sizes about community and personal safety. Ray was appointed as a principal instructor at the Idaho POST Academy Police Training Institute in 1999, instructing on topics such as Arrest Control, Cultural Diversity, and, for the last five years, exclusively on Instructor Development, where he taught other officers to become POST certified instructors. Ray was the head sex crimes investigator for the agency where he works from 2007 to 2011, and he was also named one of Idaho's Top Fifty Authors in 2011. He has three grown children, two sons and a daughter, and has been married to the same woman for 28 years.
He is an ordained preacher as well as the associate pastor of the church where he worships. Ray resides in Idaho with his family.
