At Walking Pace by Nyla Naseer

At Walking Pace explains why walking is the unsung hero of our times. It helps readers to gain or regain an understanding of the practical benefits of walking to wellbeing, enjoyment, thinking and resilience. Walking is the most natural means of getting around under your own steam and the only sustained dynamic exercise that it is possible for nearly all of us to participate in (even if we go slowly at first). No special skills or equipment are required and you can do it anywhere. Walking is flexible enough to be accommodated into occupational and domestic routines, as well as for leisure or specific fitness training. Exploring the evolutionary and historical importance of walking, this book uncovers how the principles that motivated people to walk in the past are even more relevant in the 21st century. Walking can help you get fitter, feel better and work smarter during these uncertain and hectic times. Life really is better 'at walking pace'.At Walking Pace enlightens you to the ways that walking can enhance your life, whether you want to start walking in earnest for health or wellbeing reasons, or because you are curious about just how walking can make an impact on your life. Using a combination of research study information, observation and her own experience the author has summarised the ways that you can use walking in your life. The book also delves into the extra elements that can enhance your experience of walking and the benefits that it brings you; for example, does playing music whilst you walk make a difference, or should you try some problem-solving whilst you are on the move? The book is packed with information from research, observation and the personal experience of the author and others. It is a readable, interesting and useful take on the joy of walking.

Naseer, Nyla: - Nyla Naseer lives in Birmingham, United Kingdom. She is a writer and social commentator. Given the opportunity to gain a different perspective, she has always grabbed it; as a consequence, her life has never been short on real-life drama-be this on the streets of the inner city or in corridors of power, both environments in which she has felt equally comfortable-or uncomfortable. A career that spans working in warehouses to boardrooms has enabled her to experience how organisations operate and the judgments they make. This has prompted an exploration of why people and societies behave as they do. The dominant themes of Nyla's writing are: the innate need of people to be 'human' in both positive and negative ways, the stories that emerge from the soup of change, and the need to understand how we become influenced by others. She writes both non-fiction and fiction exploring these themes. Her works of fiction are mainly about the adventures of contemporary outsiders. Her non-fiction writing is centred on the tensions between social change and 'human-ness'. Nyla's interest in technology spans legal, economic and technical issues but is most keenly devoted to the impact on individual and social relations. She is a life-long advocate of simplicity, walking and nature and writes about the necessity to revive these elements as part of a human-centred life. Nyla has a BSc in Management Science, a Master of Science degree in Urban Regeneration and a Master of Law degree. She is also a PGCE qualified trainer, a qualified personal fitness trainer and a certified NLP practitioner. Away from her writing she can frequently be seen pounding the paths as a long-distance hiker.
