Athlone Miscellany by Gearoid O'brien
Athlone Miscellany is a collection of the historical articles published by Gearoid O’Brien, the author, historian and broadcaster. They have always had a wide readership, and are known for capturing a sense of the town and the community, in an informative and engaging way. This is the first time these articles have been published together, and represent a valuable history of the changing face of Athlone.
John Broderick was born in Athlone in 1924. Educated in Ireland he lived in London, Rome, and Paris. He was elected a member of the Irish Academy of Letters in 1968. A neglected but powerful writer, he was the author of six novels set in the Irish midlands. He died in Bath in 1989.
