English summary: The BMBF funded project Aufwind mit Mentoring (Ascent through Mentoring) analyses the effectiveness of mentoring programmes in Science. It closes the gap in research on the topic of mentoring. To achieve this, nine mentoring programmes aimed at supporting the careers of female academics were evaluated. The results of the study show that mentoring is a highly flexible and successful tool in fostering and promoting early-career researchers that can be used to fulfil a number of different goals. This can be evidenced by the high levels of participant satisfaction with the programmes. Mentoring provides individual support to participants, helping them achieve 'scientific excellence' and prepares them to take on leadership positions with the responsibility that they entail. Also it can affect the structure of the institution. The comparison of the mentoring programmes identifies aspects of successful mentoring relationships and provides best-practice examples. German description: Das BMBF geforderte Forschungsprojekt Aufwind mit Mentoring unter der Leitung von Dagmar Hoppel untersucht die Effekte von Mentoring-Programmen in der Wissenschaft. Es schliesst damit eine grosse Lucke in der Mentoring-Forschung. Dazu wurden neun Mentoring-Programme als eine Massnahme zur Karriereforderung von Frauen in der Wissenschaft analysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass Mentoring ein hochst flexibles und erfolgreiches Instrument der Nachwuchsforderung ist, das vielfaltige Anforderungen erfullen kann. Es fuhrt zu einer hohen Zufriedenheit der Teilnehmenden und schliesst eine Lucke zwischen fachlicher Exzellenz und der erforderlichen individuellen Starkung, um eine Fuhrungsposition zielgerichtet anzustreben und verantwortungsbewusst zu ubernehmen. Ferner werden strukturelle Rahmenbedingungen analysiert und Bezuge zur Hochschulstruktur und -kultur hergestellt.
