The Avro Vulcan is probably the most famous and best loved of the three V-Bombers that constituted the Royal Air Force's nuclear strike force during the 1960s. Immediately recognisable thanks to its huge delta wing, it was at the forefront of Britain's strategic nuclear defences for over a decade. As the nuclear deterrent was passed to the Royal Navy at the end of the 1960s, the Vulcan was redeployed onto tactical interdiction duties. During the 1982 Falklands War, the Vulcan saw the only combat service of its career. Kev Darling spent more than twenty years in the Royal Air Force, engineering aircraft ranging in size from the Tiger Moth to the TriStar. Medically discharged after the first Gulf War he strengthened his writing career, which he had begun in 1986.
